GET YOUR KIDS INVOLVED!
Proud winners of the 2015 RBS Junior Club of the Year Award, Peebles boasts a flourishing junior section, part of the national ClubGolf programme, with more than 150 junior members, from the age of four upwards. Our aim is to give youngsters a fun and welcoming environment to learn to play golf and develop junior golfers to become lifelong players and future champions at local, regional and national level...
Our junior membership starts from Primary 1 (age 4) offering regular Sunday afternoon coaching for kids, whether beginners or those already involved in the game. Our ethos is to allow juniors to enjoy the game, be part of the club and be made to feel welcome in a warm and friendly environment, with the opportunity to develop their skills and progress to become a competitive player...
How much does it cost?
Your child can begin with 2 free taster sessions, after that if your child is enjoying it and wants to continue they can join for the year for £40 for Under-12s. They don't need equipment for the golf sessions as clubs, balls and tees are provided.
We have a good mix of boys and girls who attend regularly, coached by our PGA professional Steve Johnston and a team of 7 enthusiastic Level 1 Volunteer Coaches providing fun coaching sessions for kids of all ages...
Become a champion!
We are one of a select band of clubs to have produced both a Scottish Boys Champion and Scottish Girls Champion in Craig Howie (2012) and Ailsa Bain (2010).
Both are now honorary members of Peebles Golf Club and continue to inspire and support our juniors. Craig has recently graduated from Stirling University on a golf scholarship while competing at the top level of the amateur circuit and Ailsa is the assistant pro at Gullane Golf Club. Craig's younger brother Darren is a member of the Scottish Boys National Team...
We offer excellent value-for-money junior membership packages, starting from £40 for Under 12s (including ClubGolf coaching) through to £90 for our 16 – 18 year-old age category, with a wide range of competitions and activities for players of all ages and abilities.
We are part of the ClubGolf national junior programme, which attracted more than 50 participants last summer from P1 to S1, with specialist junior coaching on offer throughout the Easter holidays and summer months. The junior competition season runs from April through to October, while we also feature 9-hole rounds for the less experienced younger members, with forward blue tees to make the course more playable and adult volunteers accompanying the youngsters to offer general advice.
The Peebles Golf Club Junior Team competes in the Edinburgh League and won the title in 2008, playing home and away matches against a number of top clubs, with the chance for our young members to enjoy competitive golf over some of the Capital's best courses.
To find out more about how you can get involved in supporting the junior section, of if you have a child looking to become a junior member, contact the Secretary on 01721 720197.
“The Club is very proud of our junior section and we have a very proactive approach towards our younger members. Our juniors have enjoyed tremendous success over the last few years and we would encourage and youngster or parent who wants to get involved to come along and meet the team.”
