TAMS result for Thursday 18th May:

On a day of good scoring, Chris Beaumont led the field with nett 29, followed by Ronnie Watt on 31.

There were many hot on their heels with 32.

David Wallace birdied No 9 and George Langlands was nearest on No7.

 

TAMS result for Thursday 25th May:

This was easily the hottest day of the year so far.

On beautiful greens and running fairways the large turnout of 26 toiled in the hot sun and did not manage a single birdie.

Bill Hardcastle however showed us all how to play and won with nett 31 and was also nearest at the 7th.

A resurgent Chris Beaumont maintained his run of good form and was second on 33 despite the handicap reduction after his win last week.

May 11th and the winner is ...... wait until Christmas!

To-day we played for the Roddy McAlpine Gavel, the winner of which will be revealed at the Xmas lunch.

 

Birdies were recorded by David Wallace [3rd and 9th] and Warner Hardie [ 9th]. Brian Taylor was nearest at the 7th.

 

David was the star of the TAMS team which played in Tuesday's Peebles Youth Trust Charity Day winning nearest the pin at the 1st and 12th holes.

Thursday 27th April

/

24 souls braved a cold nor'westerly on Thursday. Andy Tucker hit a rich vein of form coming first with net 29 and also hitting closest a the 7th. John Forsyth was second on net 30 while Brian Taylor produced the only birdie of the day at the 9th.

 

Alistair Lambie endured his first TAMS outing [he had to play with Gordon Fisher!]

 

Next Thursday will be a normal Stableford and on the 11th we will play a 5 club Stableford for Roddie McAlpine's Gavel.

Thursday 20th April

/

An improving course saw improving scores with 3 players recording sub net 30 scores and 10 players recording sub net 35's.

                                       George Cunningham beat Jim McAuslin on countback, both recording net 27. Richard Edmonds birdied the first while George Langlands was nearest at the 7th-a floating 9 iron to 2ft-and the birdie was converted.

Thursday 13th April

/

Today's benign conditions enabled some very low scoring with Eric Ward and Doug Coltman both returning net 29's-Doug won on countback to add to last week's win-he was also nearest the pin at the 7th. 11 other players recorded scores below net 35.

 

Birdies were recorded for Gordon Fisher, Brian Robson and Ian Tate.

 

Brian Taylor had his first TAMS outing.

 

As we now have over 40 potential players we are not encouraging further additions in the meantime.

First outing of the Summer Season.

First of the summer season saw 32 players, many eager to test their skills with their revised handicaps. There were several scores over 20 points but Doug Coltman returned a record 27 points. Gordon Fisher came second on 23 points ,beating Steve Farrar on countback. Bill Hardcastle was nearest the pin at the 7th while David Wallace and Andy Tucker both had birdies.

 

We welcomed Donald Miller a summer visitor from New Zealand.

Results 30th March

On a blustery early spring day a good turnout of 20 played pretty poorly.

Our traditional spring handicap uplift is clearly anxiously awaited.

 

However, fresh from a week of revolutionary immersion in the cafes of Vienna, Tony Kinder produced a great performance to win with 19 points. In second place and assisted by his West Highland Terrier (seek R&A clarification on canine assistance !!??) was George Tucker with 17 points.The rest of the field was seriously 'also-ran'.

Roger Key had a birdie on the 5th which cheered an otherwise unmemorable outing and Chris Beaumont was nearest at 7 with a fine fade into the strong wind.

16th March results.

I had the pleasure of joining the TAMS for a coffee after their game on Thursday 16th March. It was fascinating to watch George Langlands (and David Wallace) check all the cards and enter the scores on the spreadsheet. The whole operation ran like a well oiled machine!

George welcomed the newest TAM, Ian Tate, and remarked jokingly that he may have to start a waiting list as he is running out of room on the Master Sheet.

Ronnie Watt was the winner today with an impressive 19 points with Ian Quigley returning 18 points for second place. No birdies were recorded. Alan Urquhart was nearest the pin at the 7th.

Langlands returns to form

9th February

There was a good turn out of 18 players who took advantage of the reasonable weather before the snow returned.

George Langlands, after a 2 week break, regained his touch and won the day with a score of 18 points! He described his birdie on the 7th as " flukey" but his playing partners confirmed that it was pure skill!

David Wallace had a tidy 9 holes coming second with 15 points - reducing his TAMS handicap to 2.

2nd February results

/

On a day when the weather was actually better than forecast, we had a modest turnout of 13. Given that we were playing to the summer greens, which made the course quite long in the muddy conditions, the scoring was pretty good.

Our winner with 18 points was Roger Key and our runner-up was Richard Edmondswith 17 points. There were no birdies today, despite some valiant efforts on Nos 4, 5 and 9.

Results for 26th January

On a bitterly cold morning we had a brave turnout who all enjoyed their last coffees and filled rolls before the clubhouse closes for the upgrading work.

Harvey Robertson won on countback from David Wallace with 17 points. David did however shoot birdies on Nos 4 and 9.

For the coming weeks the TAMS will leave their scorecards with the Pro and there will be a grand wrap up prize giving when we resume in the clubhouse.

For those. Who would like to gather after the golf, we understand that we will be welcome at the Park Hotel, where there is decent parking and lounge space.

19th January - It's a funny old game!

On a calm winter's morning we had an excellent turn out of 19.

it is clear from the rather modest scores that we play better on winter greens than on the proper greens. It is also apparent that those who played in the daylight rather than the semi gloom of 8am fared much better. Nonetheless Warner Hardie was our clear winner on 16 points and our elder statesman Steve Baczkowski came second on 14 points after a countback with George Tucker.

There was an unusual rules issue on which we had to consult the head Pro. At the 7th, Ken Davey's tee shot lay just short of the putting surface. Harvey Robertson whose tee shot lay further away played his second shot first. His ball struck Ken's ball and moved it on to the putting surface. So the question to Steve Johnston was - what should Ken have done then? The answer was that Ken had the option in his sole discretion either to play the ball as it lay or to replace it from whence it had been moved. This also had an amusing side to it! No one had reached the putting surface at the 7th and therefore there was no nearest the pin at that point. With Ken's ball having been knocked onto the green he therefore qualified for the nearest the pin award! What a strange game!

 

 

Last TAMS of 2016

22nd December

7 brave/foolhardy souls survived a 30 minute squall to return a wide range of scores.

Brian Robson coped best with the wild conditions scoring 15 points with Sandy Macfarlane coming second on 14 points. Bill Hardcastle was nearest the pin at the 7th.

29th December

A pleasant morning encouraged 16 players.

George Tucker won with 16 points. Andy Tucker came second on 15 points beating Harvey Robertson and Jim McAuslin on countback.

No one managed to hit the 7th Green from the tee!

Golf, Lunch and Prizegiving

20 players competed in the 5 club competition.Some relished having only 5 clubs - others clearly did not with the points ranging from 6 to 20!

Ken Davey was first on 20 points and Sandy Macfarlane came second with 18. Richard Edmonds was nearest the pin at the 7th.

29 TAMS then enjoyed an excellent Christmas lunch in a very convivial atmosphere. It was good to welcome 'Retired' TAMS Bob Alexander, Bill Brown and Jardine Pincott.

Jazz and his team always excell on these occasions helping to make it a much anticipated event in the annual fixture list.
