22 souls braved a dark but mild start to December.
Ken Bowie showed his old single handicap form scoring 22 points to win, with Eric Ward coming second on an impressive 19 points.
Ken was also nearest the pin at the 7th but was an inch short for his birdie.
24 th November
16 souls braved a very cold start - minus 5 degrees Celcius -but it turned out a lovely morning especially for Gordon Fisher who won with 20 points then immediately fled for Christmas in New Zealand.
John Burnett was second with 19 points and Alan Urquhart recorded the only birdie at the 9th.
No nearest the pin at the 7th this week - probably should have been nearest the green!!!
17th November
It was the day of the Tuckers! Andy won with 19 points and George (no relation) was second on 18 points.
Warner Hardie was nearest the pin on the 7th.
The TAMS sent their congratulations to Darren Howie of Peebles Golf Club who finished second in the Daily Telegraph annual 54 hole youth tournament held in Portugal after a series of qualifying tournaments held in the UK.
On a pleasant early winter`s day we had 22 starters still playing on summer greens.
Three players tied on 18 points - Bill Hardcastle, David Wallace and Richard Edmonds -and Bill won on countback. David was second, also on countback thanks to a welcome birdie on the 9th.
From the winter tee on the 7th, no-one registered a shot on the green, though there were many lost in that chasm left of the pin.
It was good to see that Jim McAuslin, despite a recent handicap reduction, continues to finish near the top of the leaderboard.
26 souls played in rather benign conditions - despite heavy rain and sharp frost having been forecast.
The conditions certainly suited George Langlands who won with 18 points, birdied the 1st and was nearest the pin at the 7th.
6 players tied on 17 points, David Parker winning on countback.
At 8am on Thursday it was still dark, delaying the early starters.
The vagaries of the putting surfaces were blamed for some poor scoring but did not stop Ken Davey and Brian Robson scoring 21 points each, Ken winning on countback.
Brian birdied the 1st and the 9th while Jim McAuslin was nearest a tricky pin position at the 7th.
With the clocks going back this weekend, normal service will resume for the early starters next week.
The TAMS Christmas lunch will be on the 8th December
Chris Beaumont won with 20 points and was also nearest the pin at the 7th. Roger Key continued his good form coming second with 17 points.
David Wallace birdied the 8th
We had a good turnout of 17 players despite the 'iffy' forecast. We are now playing a Stableford competition every week until the spring. Scoring was good and the competition was close.
The winner on 20 points was Roger Key even with 2 'wipes'. Runner up on 19 points was George Tucker with 3 players tied on 18 close behind
.Bill Hardcastle was nearest on No 7 and both he and George Raeburn birdied this hole.
We received a very gracious Thank You card from Stevie, who very much appreciated his 90th birthday card, cake and gifts.
.
Members of the TAMS celebrate Steve Baczkowski's 90th birthday.
Following their competition on the 6th October the TAMS celebrated Steve Baczkowski's 90th birthday.
Steve was presented with a bottle of Malt and he was made the first ever Honorary TAM. Sandra and Yvonne arranged for a chocolate birthday cake which was very well received.
Congratulations Steve from everyone at Peebles Golf Club!
29th September
Tony Kinder won with a nett 34 - and this was before he had his lesson! George Langlands was second with a nett 37. Sandy Macfarlane was nearest at the 7th.
6th October
Gordon Smith won after countback with 17 points. He was also nearest the pin at the 7th hole which he went on to birdie. Alan Urquhart was second. David Wallace birdied the 9th hole.
A gloomy start to the day combined with the lush rough resulted in only 13 starters. Once again the trying conditions brought out the best in the most senior of our senior players ( excepting Steve who of course won the other week! ) . There was a 3 way tie on nett 35 between Jim McAuslin, Ronnie Watt and Joe Nisbet. After count-back, Jim and Ronnie were joint first.
There were no birdies and David Wallace was nearest the pin at the 7th.
A lot of golf was played in fairly thick mist today and this resulted in many more scores over 40 than under!
Warner Hardie won with a nett 32. Joe Nisbet and George Langlands could not be separated on nett 34 for second place. Sandy Macfarlane was nearest the pin at the 7th hole while David Wallace recorded the only birdie at the 6th.
Last week the TAMS played for the Ken Bowie Salver for the first time. The result will be announced at the Christmas lunch.
Yesterday, 22 braved the 'light' rain which was not so light. The last group ,who had the worst of the conditions , returned three players on nett 33. Our oldest TAM, Steve Baczkowski, won on count back from youngster Ken Davey with George Tucker coming third. Steve was also nearest the pin at the 7th.Birdies were recorded by Bill Hardcastle and Andy Tucker at the 9th.
In first place was Brian Robson who beat George Raeburn on count back returning a nett 31.
Brian also birdied the 4th ( a rare event for TAMS) while Bill Hardcastle was nearest the pin at the 7th.
After some discussion it was agreed that over the winter the Stableford format will apply.
9 foolhardy souls braved the rain and a partly waterlogged course.
Steve Farrar won with 17 points and George Langlands came second with 16 points. Sandy Macfarlane was nearest the pin at the 7th.
Owing to holidays and David W being 'mal de combat' here is a catch up with the rest of the July TAMS results.
14th July: George Raeburn was first with an impressive nett 29. Ken Davey and Steve Farrar could not be separated for second with nett 32s. John Forsyth was nearest the pin at the 7th.
21st July: Nett 29 again took first place for Sandy Macfarlane with John Burnett returning a nett 31 for second. Richard Edmonds eagled the 8th while Brian Robson birdied 7 and was nearest the pin. Jim Cutler played his first TAMS round.
28th July: Despite the excellent condition of the course, scoring was on the high side. Nett 35 took first place for Harvey Robertson on count back from Sandy Macfarlane. No birdies were recorded and John Forsyth was nearest the pin at the 7th.
