3rd of May and it’s ... a hole in one!

On a benign spring day 25 enjoyed the good conditions.

And what a showstopper we had today!

In the midst of an otherwise unspectacular round, Ian Quigley joined that elite and illustrious group of golfers who can boast a hole-in-one, with a lovely shot on the 7th which was witnessed by his playing partners and a cheering group on the 4th tee.

Ian's splendid feat was greeted with great acclaim in the clubhouse and, after a polite pause, a gentle hint that the customary ringing of the bar bell would be appreciated.

Ian has most graciously undertaken to fund the first round of drinks at the TAMS Christmas Lunch and despite his former position as a leading Edinburgh lawyer, Ian has not sought to limit his liability for his generous offer.

 

Today was a stableford competition and Eric Ward (red)arrowed his way to an excellent score of 25 points.

Second place was narrowly won by the venerable George Tucker with 23 points.

Ken Davey birdied the fifth, David Wallace the ninth and of course that man Quigley was nearest the pin at the 7th.

 

 

Results for 19th March

The return of the golden ball in the sky [it was warm!] encouraged 27 TAMS to turn out. Good conditions were matched with good scoring with Bill Hardcastle registering net 30 for first place. Peter Barclay edged Roger Key for second on net 31, Roger taking nearest the pin at 7 and converting the birdie chance. Birdies were also recorded by George Langlands at 5 and Chris Malcom at 9.

A magnificent 23 TAMS turned out between blizzards.

Steve Farrar aka The Laird of Romanno Bridge won with a fine round of 20 points.

Second on 19 points was Gordon Fisher and Ian Quigley was nearest on No 7.

 

Starting in zero visibility and a heavy frost, 16 TAMS played the last round of the Winter Stableford Competition.

To celebrate this and in the spirit of the upcoming Easter holiday, the Commisaires decided to award three equal first places, with corresponding handicap reductions to Ronnie Watt, Ian Quigley and Tony Kinder.

Ronnie Watt was also nearest at No 7 and Steve Farrar, last week's winner, made a great birdie at the first.

 

Annual handicap revisions will be sent out to TAMS in the coming days and will be in effect on and from Thursday 5th April.

22nd February ... and is there a TAMS record score?

Despite the return of winter we had an excellent turn out of 18 players today.

Our winner today was John Forsyth with a truly magnificent score of 26 points. John putted beautifully even though we were on winter greens

Records are being checked to see if this is a TAMS record.

John Napier and David Parker were a distant second on 19 points and John won on a countback.

Ken Davey had a very rare nearest the pin on the 7th - rare because the winter green is tiny and very elusive.

On a cold grey morning it was nearly 08.30 before we could see well enough to play.

The eighteen starters put on a spectacular performance given that we were on winter greens and muddy fairways.

Jim Walker took the honours on this the first TAMS outing of the year with 23 points which included a wipe on the second.

Ken Davey edged out Peter Barclay on countback for second place with 21 points, thanks to a birdie on no 9. David Wallace birdied no 4.

No-one managed to hit the tiny target of the 7th green.

 

Brian Robson had the shot of the day when he hold a monster 100 foot putt from the back of the third green all the way across the green then down the fairway and into the hole on the winter green.

12 souls braved conditions which were not as severe as forecast. Scoring was held over until next week to allow players to go home and change for the Xmas lunch.

 

34 TAMS enjoyed a convivial Xmas lunch at which the 2017 Trophies were presented as follows;

There was also a Special Presentation to Jim McAuslin in recognition of his recent 90th birthday and his contribution to TAMS over the past 24 years.  TAMS will be 25 next May.

 

 

Entertaining contributions to the proceedings were made by Ian Quigley, Harvey Robertson, Doug Coltman and Ken Bowie.

 

 

St Andrew's Day Results

With the course closed last Thursday 22 players were keen to brave a freezing morning to play.  Despite the conditions, scoring was impressive, Jim Walker winning with 23 points, Brian Robson coming second on 19 points. Birdies were recorded by Roger Key, Brian Taylor, David Wallace and Jim Walker. In these conditions we should probably have a nearest the green prize at the 7th as to stop on the winter green is almost impossible.

 

Sadly we lost George Raeburn this week . A really nice man who will be sadly missed.

 

Our Xmas lunch is eagerly anticipated next week when this year's trophy winners will be announced.

23 souls encountered benign conditions tho this was not reflected in the overall scoring.

 

Wilson Struthers picked up his first first place with 23 points, Tony Kinder coming second with a commendable 19. Ian Tate was nearest at 7 while Ronnie Watt birdied 7 [an outrageous chip in according to his playing partners] .David Wallace birdied 9.

 

Steve Culbert had his first TAMS outing and it was good to see Sandy Macfarlane back on the course and Chris Beaumont up for coffee after their recent ops.

For 26/10 our results:

Our newly trained scorer, Sandy Macfarlane, was in the chair and did a splendid job.

With the putting still a bit difficult due to the greenkeepers work and the heavy dew, 22 played and Alistair Lambie was the clear winner on 22 points with John Forsyth second on 19 points. Richard Edmonds had a 2 on No 7 and Steve Farrar was nearest on No7.

 

For 02/11 our results:

With Sandy still in the chair 19 played on a glorious, though squelchy, autumn morning when the colours of the trees reminded us of the tweeds that Bernat Klein used to create based on these colours.

George Tucker was first with 19 points in a closely contested match. For the second week running John Forsyth was second with 18 points.

Brian Robson was very close at No 7 to win the nearest the pin and to make a birdie.
