Match report 14th August

/

In light of the recent severe thunderstorm and the uncertain forecast the 5 club competition for Ken's Salver was postponed. We hope to play it next week. 

 

General scoring was good despite the wet conditions. George Cunningham and Bill Brownlee were tied on 25 points with George taking second place after countback. Ian Quigley continued his recent good form returning 26 points to win the day.

 

Bob Bennett birdied 7 while Allan Young was nearest the pin.

 

The group were sorry to hear that our oldest member, Steve Baczkowski,  had possibly had a slight heart issue. Steve is back home with his family and we all hope for a successful recovery

A pleasant, if cooler, morning welcomed 23 players. In general scoring was impressive with 17 players returning 15 points or more. Willie Waters took second place with 22 points while George Cunningham having had 2 second places recently at last claimed a first with 24 points. Birdies were recorded by Jimmy Mair, Ian Tate and Graham Fairclough with Graham Mackie taking nearest the pin at 7

 

No TAMS next week with the Senior Open taking place. We will play with 5 clubs on the 14th for the Ken Bowie Salver.


Results for 3rd July

Only 14 played as several of the usual participants were involved in a senior away fixture.  The greens were in excellent condition but the bunkers were suffering from recent heavy rain.  

Second on 20 points was Melvin Cannell.  The winner on 21 points was Brian Robson who was also nearest the pin for the second week running.  There were no birdies.

There will be no TAMS on Thursday 10th as the course is closed for the Scottish Boys Open.


Results for 12th June

Several TAMS were playing in the match against Longniddry. Of the 14 who played 8 scored 20 points or more. The presentation of the course, in particular the greens, was excellent. Well done Stevie and his team.

 

Tied on 21 points for second were Sandy Morris and George Cunningham, Sandy winning the countback. With an impressive 25 points Ian Quigley took first place. David Ward-Gittos birdied 8 while Bill Hardcastle was nearest at 7.


Results for May 15th

With the continued good weather and the course in excellent condition scoring was high. Of 18 players 11 scored 20 points or more. The two Johns, Cairns and Forsyth, both tied on 22 points John C taking second on countback. With an impressive haul of 26 points Richard Edmonds took first place and was also nearest the pin at the 7th. Good shooting Richard!

 

Surprisingly there were no birdies

It is planned to have a 5 club competition on 5th June for the Roddie's Gavel.


Results for April 24th

A pleasant if cool Spring morning with the course in fine condition encouraged some quite high scores.10 players scored 20 points or more with John Forsyth returning 23 points for second place while Gordon [the maestro] Fisher maintained his recent good form scoring 24 points for a well deserved 1st place. Brian Robson holed from off the green at 4 for a birdie, John Cairns birdied 7 where Chris Malcolm was nearest the pin.

A cold misty morning saw 24 TAMS start the  'summer' season. As the sun warmed things up so the scoring heated up with more generous handicaps now applying.

Ken Davey, John Forsyth and Willie Walters all scored 23 points with Willie taking second place on countback. Ian Tate was the clear winner with 24 points while Carlos Maeso was nearest at 7 and converted his birdie opportunity.

 

Allan Young was welcomed by the group on his first TAMS outing.

 

George Langlands advised the group that from today the scoring/presentational duties on a Thursday would be on a 3 week  alternating cycle with Brian and Graham. He also proposed that £400 be contributed to the club as part of this year's sponsorship for the juniors.

 

Sadly we are losing Steve Farrar who is joining The Woll, being much nearer to his Hawick home.

Results for March 27th

There was a good turnout for the last winter outing despite an unfavourable forecast. A most unusual situation saw Ian Quigley and Carlos Maeso tied on 18 points even after countback so first place was shared. Jim Douglas eased out Gordon Fisher for second place, both tied on 16 points. Bill Hardcastle and George Langlands both recorded birdies, the latter being nearest at 7 with a 10 inch put for his 2.

 

Handicaps will increase by 5 from next week

A fine spring morning with the presentation of the course visibly improving week on week saw 26 TAMS venture forth. Alister Lambie and Jim Walker both tied on 18 points with Jim taking the honours after countback despite his efforts to protect his handicap for the summer. Birdies there were none and Gordon Fisher was nearest at 7.

 

Next week is the last winter event. Handicaps will be adjusted +5 for the summer. A revised list will be confirmed. 

 

Jim Cleland was made welcome to his first TAMS round.

Results for March 13th

A cold but frost free morning welcomed 21 players. Melvin Cannell, Roger Key and Ian Tate all scored 16 points with Ian taking second place on countback. The runaway winner [literally] was Sandy Morris who,excited by scoring 21 points, ran down  the hill to the clubhouse to register his score causing some concern to watching TAMS! 

 

Birdies were recorded by Jim Douglas at 8 and Keith Ackerman at 9 while Bob Bennett was nearest at 7 for the second week in a row.

Results for March 6th

A fine spring morning generated an expectation of some low scores. It did not happen. 16 players scored 13 points or less. Of the remaining 5 players Carlos Maeso and George Langlands tied on 15 points, even after an extensive countback, to share second place. Gordon Innes was first with 16 points much to his surprise.

 

Birdies were recorded by Carlos at 4 and Chris Malcolm at 8, while Bob Bennet was nearest at 7.

 

Despite successful surgery Chris Beaumont has been advised not to play golf and will not be renewing his club membership. He [and his wonderful voice] will always be welcome for the post golf chat/humour/ridicule/harmony etc.
